The nearby north pier is well-known for its excellent fishing opportunities and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake. The park is named after Captain John Langland, who served as the light tender for the original kerosene lighthouse at the end of the north pier in 1891. He diligently maintained the light until 1917, when it was automated. Today, the park is a tribute to his dedication and the area's maritime history, providing a peaceful and picturesque setting for relaxation and recreation.
